If You Don’t Have Anything Nice to Say, Don’t Say Anything at All

It’s HUMPDAYYYY! I hope you all have had a great week so far. I am currently sitting in a coffee shop in Charlotte as I am writing this and I am pretty proud of myself because it is the first time I have actually worked outside of my own home since I started blogging full time. I must say, I need to do this more often because I definitely get a lot more done. It’s way less distracting when I don’t have the TV right in front of me.

I just wanted to touch on something that has been a little heavy on my heart this week. Different circumstances have happened that have made me realize how mean some people can be on social media. This week in particular some girls have been SO MEAN with their comments. I understand that people are not always going to agree with what I post or what I say but that gives people no right to be mean. I have had people send me DMs basically cursing me out over clothes criticizing them in whatever way possible (price, design, functionality, etc) that I post or talking about my appearance. These are just 2 small situations that have happened recently. There have been many more and even some sexual harassment mixed in there (which I DO not tolerate, by the way).

I guess the take away from all of this is to just be NICE to people. I am putting myself out there by doing blogging and I understand that. But I am not going to stand for the bullying and unnecessary/rude/mean/passive aggressive comments on my own blog. This is my full time job and I take pride in what I do and work really, really hard to bring all of you content every single day. If you don’t agree with something that I post, by all means, that is fine. But it is all about the WAY you say something, not what you say. And this week was just full of passive aggressive comments that were aimed to hurt me/get to me. Also, if you have something you want to say to me why not just send me a private message vs embarrassing me on my own page for others to see? But again, it’s all about how you say something, not what you say. Cursing someone out over something you don’t agree with is no way to handle any situation. Cyber bullying just isn’t right and no one should tolerate it. We are all humans and we all have emotions. I am working on not letting little comments like this get to me so much but at the same time I am also going to stand for what I believe is right. Don’t hide behind a computer screen and be mean to people or even passive aggressively be mean to people. It’s pretty simple, say something nice or don’t say anything at all. And if you do have something to say, say it in an appropriate manner or reach out to that person directly. There are better ways to go about things.

Listen y’all, life is HARD. People are all battling stuff. Why make it even harder for people? My life may look perfect sometimes on social media but if you have been following me for any amount of time you know that is certainly not the case. I just got out of one of the hardest years of my life this past year and I am still learning how to get through that and move on everything single day. We, as women, need to empower each other and bring each other up, not tear each other down. Three of my main missions with my blog is to help with empowering other women to make them feel beautiful and confident, to share my faith, and to bring you outfit ideas. I will not put up with anyone trying to bring anyone down on my platform, including myself. So again, if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. If you do comment something nasty on my platform, I promise it will be the last time. That isn’t a threat, that’s just me standing up for what I believe in. Let’s be NICE PEOPLE. Let’s LOVE each other and BUILD each other UP. Let’s “do unto others as we would have them do unto us”. It’s really that simple.

Sorry for the rant but I had to get this off of my chest. I think all of us that have some kind of job in social media and especially celebrities deal with this on a daily basis and people just need to remember to stand up for what is right. Even if you aren’t big on social media, you still could be a victim to this kind of thing. At the end of the day, I always try to ask myself, what would Jesus do? He is the best example to live by. It is also way more rewarding to be nice than it is to be mean. We should all just strive to do the right thing. Have any of you ever experienced cyber bullying in any type of way? I would love to hear your story and love to give you some encouragement. You are not the only one and people, including myself, are here for you.

I will end this blog post by mentioning a little about my outfit that I posted. This new striped crop top is a favorite of mine for many different reasons. I love the linen material, I love the colorful stripes, and I also love the uniqueness on the sleeve. This is a great crop top for Spring and I love it paired with my favorite distressed denim but it would also look great with jean shorts. I also have to talk a little about these new shoes that I just got in the mail. Slide heels are HUGE for the Spring and Summer this year and these are the first ones that I have purchased. I love these because they are unique since they have the clear piece of material on the front. I also love the blush colored suede and the heel height. These shoes will seriously go with anything! They fit true to size, I am wearing my true size 8.5. Not to mention they are pretty comfortable.

I hope you all have a great rest of your week! Thank you for taking the time to read this. I will check back in later this week. 🙂

XOXO,

Katy

I am so proud of you for bringing attention to this. I actually think it takes a lot of courage to stand up for yourself and bring light to these comments. My feeling on why people post such negative comments and say negative things (especially through social media where they don't have to say it to your face) is that these people have something going on in their lives that is making them so unhappy so they need to put other people down to feel better. I know I have had some mean thoughts about people on social media. But when I do a little soul searching to understand why I am thinking those mean things, it stems from my own insecurities or unhappiness. Ex. "Ugh, her legs are too skinny" actually means "I wish my legs were that skinny". Or "You show way too much skin" means "I wish I were as confident with my body to show that much skin". I guess what I am getting at is that the comments probably have very little to do with you and have more to do with the poster. You just happen to be highlighting their insecurities or unhappiness, which is, of course, not your fault. And unfortunately social media and the Internet in general is a great way of cowardly putting other people down so you don't have to say it to their face.Anyways, keep up the good work. You're awesome, don't let anyone try to tell you otherwise!

Thats horrible! I am so sorry you have to deal with jerks. You are beautiful and create amazing content. It's a shame that people have to be so incredibly mean. Keep the hustle darling – you're killing it! Susan@susantulubounds.com

Thank you addressing this important topic, Katy. It seems sometimes people feel they have a "right" to dump on bloggers. Sadly from what I've heard and experienced, every blogger seems to deal with this once they hit a certain size audience. I've never understood it but it has got to stop! Let's love and support each other. And if you don't like certain content, don't hate, find something else that you enjoy better.I've noticed most of these comments seem to come from a place of jealousy and resentment and are more a reflection of the individual than they are of the blogger. Thank you for bringing up this topic and for keeping it real!Terra

Haters will hate. Keep up the good work!! You obviously are super fit and healthy (those quads!!!!!) and you look happy in your own skin. You’re beautiful and you should be doing exactly what you’re doing!!!! Don’t let them bring you down. Let me add, your “skin showing” is always balanced. Jeans with a shorter top or sleeved dress when it’s really short. It’s all about balance and you always balance how much skin you show. Who cares anyway!! I’m in Charleston and it’s hot AF here and Charlotte sometimes lol. People are lucky I don’t just walk around in a swimsuit.

You are amazing! I am so proud of you for standing up. I’ve had some hateful comments about myself too. People are just jealous because you’re gorgeous. Keep up the fabulous content ❤️
